Key Takeaways

The Digital Difference

Technology should make dentistry feel less technological.

Better information means fewer unknowns. We use digital diagnostics, facially driven planning and in-office fabrication to understand more before treatment begins — and execute what we plan with greater precision.

01 — Pearl AI · Second Opinion Platform

A second opinion
on every X-ray.

Pearl AI analyzes every digital radiograph we take, highlighting areas that may deserve a closer look — from decay and bone changes to other findings visible on the image.

It doesn’t replace Dr. Sellappan’s judgment. It adds another layer of information to the clinical examination — and gives you a clearer way to see what we’re seeing.

We watch it.

Measure
Monitor
Preserve

An X-ray is a picture in time.
Innerview gives us a measurement we can compare over time.

A gentle percussion measurement evaluates how a tooth or implant responds mechanically. That gives Dr. Sellappan objective data that can be recorded today and compared at future visits — helping us follow structural changes rather than relying on a single snapshot.

Questions, answered

Digital Dentistry FAQs

What each technology does, and what it means for your care.

What is digital dentistry, and how does it improve my dental care?

Digital dentistry uses tools such as AI-assisted X-ray analysis, 3D imaging, digital scans and in-office fabrication to give us more information throughout your care. We can see more before treatment begins, show you what we’re seeing, and plan and create restorations with greater precision—often with fewer appointments.

What is a CBCT scan, and why would I need one?

A CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scan creates a 3D image of your teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses. A regular X-ray is a flat picture. CBCT shows depth, bone volume and the position of vital structures. We use it most often to plan dental implants, evaluate complex cases and root canal anatomy, and look at the jaw joint. Our Vision 16 scanner takes a quick scan with a lower radiation dose than a conventional medical CT.

How does Smile Spot Dentistry use Pearl AI with dental X-rays?

Pearl is FDA-cleared software that reviews our digital X-rays and highlights areas that may need a closer look, such as decay, bone level changes, calculus and existing restorations. It doesn’t make the diagnosis. Dr. Sellappan does, and Pearl adds a second set of eyes. It also gives you a visual report, so you can see what we’re seeing.

What is an iTero digital impression, and does it replace traditional dental molds?

The iTero Element 5D is a small handheld scanner that captures a detailed 3D model of your teeth in minutes, without trays or impression putty. It replaces traditional molds for most crowns, clear aligners, night guards and restorative planning. The scan appears on screen right away, so you can see your own teeth in 3D.

What does RAYFace 3D facial scanning show?

RAYFace captures a 3D model of your face and smile in seconds. We align it with your iTero scan and CBCT data to create a digital version of you. That lets us plan a smile that fits your facial proportions, lip line and features, not just your teeth in isolation, and preview the result before treatment starts.

What is Innerview QPD, and why would Dr. Sellappan measure a tooth or dental implant over time?

Innerview, by Perimetrics, uses Quantitative Percussion Diagnostics: a gentle, non-invasive tapping measurement of how a tooth or implant responds mechanically. An X-ray is a picture in time; Innerview gives a number we can record today and compare at future visits. Tracking that change helps us spot developing cracks, loosening restorations or changes in implant stability, and decide when treatment is actually warranted.

What can Smile Spot Dentistry make with in-office 3D printing?

Our SprintRay 3D printing workflow produces:

  • night guards
  • surgical guides for precise implant placement
  • dental models
  • temporary restorations
  • permanent crowns, inlays and onlays

Making them in-house means less waiting on an outside lab and more control over fit and quality.

Can SprintRay and Midas provide same-day dental restorations?

In many cases, yes. With Midas, SprintRay’s chairside system for permanent restorations, many single-tooth crowns, inlays and onlays can be designed, printed and placed in one appointment. That means no temporary and no second visit. Whether same-day is right for you depends on the tooth and the restoration, and Dr. Sellappan will tell you at your consultation.

How do these different digital technologies work together when planning treatment?

Each one adds a layer:

  • Pearl AI and Innerview help us diagnose.
  • CBCT shows what’s beneath the surface.
  • iTero captures your teeth.
  • RAYFace captures your face.

We bring that data together into one digital plan. The restoration is then designed from that plan and made in-office with SprintRay and Midas.

Does Smile Spot Dentistry offer digital dentistry in Venice, Florida?
